tattoo aftercare

Congrats on your beautiful new piece! Please follow these directions carefully - they will ensure your tattoo heals as well as possible.

After your session, Tegaderm will be applied to your tattoo. This is a clear, air-breathable film that keeps the area free of dust, sweat and moisture. You will also be given a second set to take home.

Keep the Tegaderm on for 24 hours. Remove it carefully - if it seems stuck, you can remove it under running cold water. This will help looosening the film.

Wash the area with cold water and scent-free antibacterial soap (Dove is a great choice), rince really well and make sure there is no soap left on the area. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Allow it to air-dry (do not rub), then apply the second set of Tegaderm. Peel the plastic backing off, exposing the adhesive side bit by bit while smoothing it down over your skin. Be careful not to stretch the film during application.

Keep the second piece on for 5 days. In this time, your tattoo will heal and you don't need to fuss or worry about it.

You can shower with the bandage but don't let it soak in water.

Once the 5 days are up, remove the Tegaderm, wash it with cold water and moisturize with a thin layer of unscented lotion. Don't go too heavy  - you don't want to suffocate the skin.  Continue moisturizing at least twice a day. Always wash your hands before handling your tattoo.

That's it!

** Healing time is different for everybody, it can be up to a month before it's completely healed**

Do Nots!

  • Avoid submerging your tattoo in water - no baths, hot tubs, or saunas. Showers are fine.

  • Stay out of the sun! Cover your tattoo while it's healing. Afterwards, always apply sunscreen. Sunlight will fade your tattoo faster, especially colored pieces.

  • Avoid tight-fitting clothing as this may rub against your tattoo and may cause flakes to peel off prematurely.

  • Don't pick or scratch. This runs the risk of pulling ink out of the tattoo. Your body will shed any flakes when it's ready. To relieve itching, use moisturizer or lightly slap the area.

  • Refrain from working out for 5-7 days.
